TSB operates a national integrated educational programme in support of children who are blind or having low vision to acquire basic education. The services offered by TSB include:
Eye health: identification and referral of children with vision problems
Education: itinerant teachers to coach the classroom teachers, follow up on the children with a visual impairment, extra-curricular activities , rehabilitation and vocational training. Tanzania Society for The Blind (TSB) seeks a qualified Education Coordinator to join the team of the TSB Tanzania office. This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing Regional education supervisors as well as Itinerant Teachers in the Itinerant Teaching Programme. He/she will lead the Education department in support operational and program implementation within Tanzania in particular regarding Dodoma and Morogoro region. The Education Coordinator will report to TSB Executive Director and work in close coordination with all TSB office staff
Responsibilities
In coordination with the TSB Executive Director, the Education Coordinator will be responsible for:
Vision development:
• Developing expertise in the different systems of inclusive education
• Develop a thorough vision about how to help the children with VI in the best possible way.
• Implement the vision through action plans and Advise the Regional Supervisors and Itinerant Teachers accordingly on the implementation of Itinerant Teaching
• Overall managing Regional Supervisors and Itinerant Teachers in the Itinerant Teaching Programme.
• Being a focal person about the implementation of the IT programme.
Reporting and M&E
• Coaching the regional supervisors and itinerant teachers in how to report
• Receiving, reviewing and approving monthly reports of the programme as submitted by Regional Supervisors
• Collect the correct and relevant statistical information of the Itinerant Teaching Programme.
• .
• Organize and oversee supervision visits for the programme
• Preparation and submission of all supervision reports to Executive Director
• Preparation and submission of quarterly and annual reports of the programme for approval by the Executive Director.
• Regularly modifying existing assessment measures and procedures and develop new informal instruments as needed to assess and evaluate children with VI
• Coordinating trainings and workshops for Regional Supervisors and Itinerant Teachers in the implementation of Itinerant Teaching programme.
• Any other task as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, or other relevant field required.
• At least 5 years of work experience in similar position is required
• Experience working with donor funded project will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of Low Vision Assessment methods, teaching techniques and tools for special education students; principles and methods of developing an instructional and behavioral management system will be an added advantage
• Incumbents must have successful experience working successfully with culturally diverse families and communities.
• Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparation of reports
• Analytical and problem solving skills; decision making skills
• Reporting skills
• Experience with data collection and data analysis
• Effective written, verbal and listening communications skills in English and Swahili
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills; high degree of professionalism.
• Computer literacy, specifically MS Excel for Windows.
